Time has beautiful mind grapes

by Lori

Do you like lists? I like lists. I’m not sure why, maybe I just enjoy organization. And I do like “best of” lists, especially when I know, watch, eat, listen to, read, drive, wear, or own whatever is on that list. Maybe that is insecurity or the desire for a sense of superiority or whatever. (I am cool! I am all about what is current and hot and must-have!)

And here’s a list I can feel some of that smugness about: Time magazine has published a series of lists, aptly called the “50 Top 10 Lists of 2007.” This includes lists in general categories News, Arts & Entertainment, Science, Business, Tech & Sports, and Pop Culture.

Why am I telling you all this, my dear and lovely Watching 30 Rock readers? You all are so smart (not to mention hot, rich, and famous) that I’m sure you already know: because 30 Rock is listed as #3 on Time’s list of the Top Ten Returning TV Series. Yeah! We’ve all known it for a while and I’m glad that the show is getting a little more mainstream attention and kudos. Here is what Time has to say about the show:

Accepting the Best Comedy Award at the Emmys, writer-producer-star Tina Fey thanked the show’s “dozens of fans.” Oh, you lucky dozens. This year 30 Rock morphed from a funny office comedy to a subversive TV satire and outrageous character showpiece. Fey’s Liz Lemon has developed into a smart-but-neurotic urban Everywoman, while Alec Baldwin channeled the spirits of Redd Foxx and Jimmy Walker in a politically incorrect impersonation that was the funniest two minutes of TV this year.

Other shows on the list include The Sopranos, Lost, Friday Night Lights, Big Love, The Office (Jim and Pam!), The Colbert Report, The Shield, Weeds, and Top Chef. Now I can feel smug here because I have heard of all these shows and I watch about half of them. So I am cool! At least in the eyes of Time magazine …. but I have to say that as I typed that, I wonder how cool it is to have Time think you are cool? I’m thinking that maybe that is not so cool. Now I am confused.

Oh well So everyone go ahead and go to Time.com and read the lists and figure out how cool you are too, at least in the eyes of Time magazine. And as long as you are watching 30 Rock, you will be cool with us too!

Now if we could only get Tina Fey selected as Time’s “Person of the Year.”
